Breakfast Under the Tree and Meeting Santa!

Note:  I'm writing this post a few weeks late! Sorry!  The holidays got in the way!

One of my favorite memories around the holidays growing up was eating breakfast "Under the tree" in the Walnut Room at Marshall Fields on State Street.  I *think* we used to take the electric train down from Richton Park and get out under the Prudential building.

We'd then saunter over to Marshall Fields, gaze at the windows, then head upstairs for breakfast (or...depending on how long the line was, lunch!).  Because of that history, it makes me really happy that we've been able to keep the tradition alive and now Eloise has been to her first Walnut Room breakfast!

We went early in the season and planned well: arriving before the store even opened.  Although they've changed the name to Macy's (And..I secretly wanted to dislike the experience), they really rolled out the red carpet.  I was impressed.  The breakfast is served buffet style - which is just fine with me.

After getting our bellies full of bacon and eggs, the fairy princess came by our table and sprinkled fairy dust on everyone's heads!  Even Aunt Sharon got into the spririt and had dust sprinkled on her!

From there, Eloise had her FIRST meeting with the big guy:  Santa, himself!  And, did she ever do great!  Nat did a good job of introducing her to Santa and then made a slow transition to his lap.  Macy's does a good job of making it quiet and peaceful back there with Santa - so that helped.

No tears!  Not bad for a first timer, eh?
